What’s in it for you?

Consulting archaeology is tough work, and that’s why your career should come with some serious perks. Here is what we provide:

    • Industry-leading salary and highly competitive compensation package
    • A flexible schedule (family comes first) and ability to plan ahead
    • Comprehensive benefits, including RSP matching and wellness spending
    • Career development and opportunities for research, learning and elevation
    • A safe, fun, empowering environment

But wait, there’s more! Life can get busy, and family (or that exciting trip, wedding, or concert) matters to us. If you need days off, just let us know, and it’s yours.

Assistant Archaeologists

As an Assistant Archaeologist, you will participate in various archaeological assessments, including BC Archaeological Impact Assessments (AIAs), Preliminary Field Reconnaissance (PFRs), and Alberta Historic Resource Impact Assessments (HRIAs), traveling to and from base locations for up to 10 to 14 days at a time. This position involves traveling to and from project areas daily, performing pedestrian traverse, and conducting subsurface testing as required. What we need from you is:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or on your way to earning one)
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with insurance history for 3+ years
  • Ability to travel and conduct fieldwork for long hours, in possible inclement weather conditions (rain, heat, cold, etc.) and diverse terrain (hills, hills, hills!)
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including hiking up to 8–10 km per day and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to be away from home for 10 to 14 days at a time
  • Effective communication skills in dealing with co-workers, including Indigenous participants and monitors, as well as the public
  • Ability to work cooperatively, support and coach co-workers in a positive team environment and share work expertise and knowledge
  • A positive, go-getter attitude
  • A commitment to working hard, and to maintaining your physical and mental health (though we have resources to assist you!)
  • A desire to work hard, work right, work nice, and work up

Supervising Archaeologists

As a Supervising Archaeologist, you will support permit holders and senior staff by leading crews in the field, completing pedestrian traverses and subsurface testing as necessary, while taking notes and recording all project areas to Circle standards. Supervising Archaeologists are asked to meet the same criteria as Assistant Archaeologists (above), but experience is required (though we will train you on our methods and standards). If you have 2-3 years of experience as an Assistant Archaeologist, you might be ready to level up!

This is a full-time permanent position for the right candidate, ensuring the efficient, and effective execution of AIAs, PFRs, and SDRs in BC. While we would prefer you to be in Calgary for maximum team collaboration, you can live wherever you want, as long as you can travel for shifts. In fact, we have staff on Vancouver Island, in Vancouver, and Prince George, and we will get you where you need to go. What we need from you is everything listed above for Assistant Archaeologists, plus:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology and Associate Membership of the BCAPA
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a Field Director for the BC Interior Plateau, with advanced knowledge and experience in archaeological consulting within the Interior Plateau of BC
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and liaising with community representatives
  • Experience liaising with the BC Archaeology Branch and meeting regulatory requirements
  • Strong leadership, team management, and personnel management skills
  • Ability to execute work plans and manage project budgets in compliance with all project requirements and on a timely and efficient basis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and engage in creative problem-solving when faced with unique challenges

Project Archaeologist (Permit Holder) – Alberta

If you are an approved permit holder with good standing in Alberta, we want to hear from you! We know that there are choices out there, and we like to think we’re one of the good ones. We have a lot to offer (see above!), and ask for all of the needs listed above for Assistant Archaeologists, plus:

  • Master’s Degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • 3 years experience supervising crews under permit holders for HRIAs
  • Strong leadership, team management, and personnel management skills
  • Ability to execute work plans and manage project budgets in compliance with all project requirements and on a timely and efficient basis
