Building a Better Future for Archaeology

Cultural resource management, or consulting archaeology, is the practice of preserving cultural heritage and resources for future generations. It is work we are deeply passionate about and an essential step in ensuring development projects move forward ethically and responsibly. However, as with many industries operating within a business framework, it can also create a competitive environment within the field. To address this, The Archaeology for Good Alliance is carving a new path; one grounded in cooperation and shared values. The Alliance was co-founded by Amanda Marshall, Principal of Kleanza Consulting Ltd., and Margarita de Guzman, Managing director and CEO of Circle CRM Group Inc., to support archaeological professionals, clients and communities across western Canada.

At its core, the Alliance believes that collaboration strengthens the practice of archaeology and was formed in response to the current challenges in the field, including a shortage of qualified professionals. With increased development activity, expanded regulatory requirements and a limited pool of permit holders and field staff, capacity challenges are increasing across the industry. By sharing people, equipment and resources, Archaeology for Good helps bridge these gaps and works towards creating a robust and sustainable archaeological future for everyone.

Ethical practice is at the foundation of this work and remains an unwavering standard in every project and partnership. The mission of the Alliance promotes best practices in archaeology through guiding principles including respect for the United Nations on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), support for Indigenous communities managing their cultural heritage, and a strong commitment to early engagement, transparency and inclusion.

Beyond professional support, the Alliance aims to highlight the meaningful work of like-minded organizations and individuals who are leading by example. Archaeology for Good aims to foster professional growth, create networking opportunities beyond the traditional associations, and celebrate the achievements of partners, projects and people who are helping shape a stronger and more compassionate future for archaeology.

If your company or organization shares these values and is interested in joining the Alliance, please contact Archaeology for Good.
