What do you find most rewarding about your work?
What I find most rewarding about my work is the opportunity to make a difference and leave a legacy.
How did you learn about Circle, and what made you want to join our community?
I met Margarita through EO (Entrepreneur’s Organization) as a mentor. I became a trusted advisor to Marg over time with her asking me to join the Circle team full-time earlier in 2024 to help grow the business.
What is your favourite thing to do on days off?
My two favourite things to do on days off are fly fishing and cycling, and in the summer, the occasional float down the Bow River. In the spring I fish in lakes and spring creeks, and in the summer and fall, I enjoy fishing in the river. I try and get out fishing a couple of times a week with my sons-in-law and we always bring bear spray! As for cycling, I have done several Fondos in BC (a 100km+ distance!) and my favourite route that I do annually with my wife and friends is Highway 1A from Banff to Johnson Canyon and back, which is 50km round-trip.
Do you have any interesting or memorable fishing stories to share?
I do owe my son-in-law Grant as he rescued me a few years ago from a difficult situation. I fell while fishing and tore my patella tendon. Not being able to walk due to the injury was one thing but we were 5 km from the truck and it was late October. Grant coordinated a rescue and it was dark and cold by the time I was rescued… 2 surgeries later and I’m feeling 100% and I’m back to fishing again!
Tell us one thing about yourself that 90% of us do not know.
I was involved in a family business for 25 years, the last 10 years as the sole owner growing it from 20 employees and revenues of $4mil to over 150 employees and revenues exceeding $15 million.
How would you spend your evening if you were in a cabin with no cell service and
no internet?
I would spend my time fishing, specifically fly fishing for trout and mountain whitefish.
Name three facts about yourself that are unique.
1. I am a first-generation Canadian with Hungarian ancestry, born and raised in Calgary.
2. I am a knight in the International Order of St Hubertus (https://iosh-usa.com/)
3. I have gone salmon fishing on the west coast (Haida Gwaii), and sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River with the largest sturgeon being over 10 feet and 200 years old!
